Why Coconut Oil is So Awesome!
Coconut Oil contains unique fatty acids that contain powerful medicinal properties that can affect several brain dysfunctions. It is these same fatty acids that over the long term lead to significant weight loss overall, but more importantly targeting the dangerous abdominal fat.
Coconut Oil also includes an ingredient known as lauric acid which is shown to kill bacteria, virus & fungi. This helps stave off infections both internally and externally. Oh, and did I mention that it tastes and smells amazing and also has UV protectant properties?
Try using it in the following beauty applications:
1. Shaving Cream
Okay, so here at Bamboo Spa actually really dislike shaving because the hairs grow back more coarse and in all directions. This helps lead to things like ingrown and painful red blisters. So, if you MUST shave at least when you use coconut oil as a shave cream, it softens the hair and allows for a smooth glide allowing the hair to be cut more evenly. Also, due to it’s soothing properties, chances of razor burn are decreased. The anti-bacterial qualities help soothe and control the red bumps as well.
2. Body Lotion Honestly! Straight out of the jar, slathered all over your body. It is a great emollient and has a sweet, tropical scent you can’t help but love!
3. Eye Makeup Remover
This is a gentle, natural alternative to using those harsh cleansers on the market. Seriously… which would you rather apply around your eyes!?
4. Fly Away hair
.This is the perfect frizz control. Simply rub a little oil in your hands and tap down any flyaways. You can also run it through your ends to combat dryness and add some shine. Honestly, who can’t use a little help after this long, dry winter?
5. Lip Balm
UV protectant and emollient, AND tastes great! Won’t dry out your lips like the other harmful petroleum based lip balms out there. What more can I say?
6. Hair Deep Conditioner
I mix about 1/4 cup coconut oil + half an avocado together and massage it into wet hair. Leave it on for about 20 minutes and then rinse. It will leave your hair shiny, silky and moisturized.
7. Protect your tresses from the chlorine-
Before you jump in the pool wet your hair and oil it from about the nape of your neck down. Then throw it in a bun. Now you don’t need to worry about chlorine fried hair.
DIY Wood Floor Cleaner
When people walk in to Bamboo Spa, almost always, the first thing they comment about is how great it smells! We LOVE essential oils and use them liberally around the spa, especially for cleaning. We also LOVE vinegar! Although the smell of vinegar can be pretty strong, most recipes call for it to be diluted and it evaporates pretty quickly. The benefits far outweigh any negatives. Did you know that white distilled vinegar is effective for killing most mold, bacteria, and germs, due to its level of acidity.
For an economical and environmentally friendly floor cleaner, we suggest mixing a solution of 3 drops dishwashing liquid to 1/2 cup white distilled vinegar, and 1/2 cup water. Add up to 10 drops of your favorite essential oils. You could try any of the citrus oil like grapefruit or lemon for a nice, spring feel. Or you could try peppermint for a fresh scent. You can always mix and match to suit your taste. Spray sparingly and mop for a fast clean-up. Happy Cleaning!
